Currently, there is no implantology specialty. Currently, those medical professionals that place implants are in Oral Surgeons, Periodontists and Prosthodontists. There also capable general dentists who place dental implants and Prosthodontists and general dentists who restore them. Of course, you should seek a doctor with much experienced, including recent experience, with dental implants and who has had much training over the years under his or her belt.

How are doctors trained to do dental implants?
Continuing education is the main way many dentists learn implant techniques. However, an increasing number of dentists are being instructed in specialty courses or in university dental implant programs, such as the three year implant program at Loma Linda University in California.
