How are dental implants used to replace missing teeth?
The first step is the dentist will determine if you have adequate
supporting bone to safely and properly place a dental implant. The
implant is placed into the bone in such a way to insure that the
implant will not be rejected by your body tissue. To place the implant
in the bone, gum tissue must be cut into.
This tissue will often be sown up over or around the implant after
it is placed into the bone. The implant will then be allowed to
heal and fuse into the bone for months until the implant is secure
enough to support the artifical tooth.
